HYBRID FLOORING
Practical, easy to install and affordable
Hybrid (or Rigid Vinyl), is a potent replacement for ceramic tiles. As the latest flooring innovation, Hybrid floors combine the best attributes of both laminate and vinyl to create a rigid waterproof, scratch and stain resistant floating floor that can be easily and affordably installed throughout the entire home.
Hybrid is made of multiple layers of materials pressed together for an extremely hard wearing floor. And because you can lay it anywhere (including bathrooms, toilets and laundries), hybrid flooring is a great choice if you’re looking for a consistent flooring style throughout your home or office space.
Floating Floor Comparison
Different floating floor options exhibit different properties and strengths.
Timber
Tough, durable and easy to clean, authentic timber floors exhibit a much sought-after natural elegance and warmth that many other flooring types attempt to imitate.
- Flooring Height: Between 12-21mm (14mm is most common)
- Can be glued down to sub floor (more costly that floating)
- Requires underlay when installed as floating floor
- Not water resistant
- Moderate to low scratch resistance
- Real timber can be more expensive than other floating floors.
Bamboo
Bamboo flooring provides a unique look and feel that stands out from other types of timber floors despite exhibiting many of the properties and traits found in timber floors.
- Flooring Height: Between 12-14mm (14mm is most common)
- Can be glued down to sub floor (not recommended)
- Requires underlay when installed as floating floor
- Not water resistant
- Moderate to low scratch resistance
- Bamboo flooring is similar in price to entry level timber.
Laminate
Sometimes indistinguishable from timber, laminate is a more cost effective and practical alternative in some cases providing benefits like scratch and water resistance.
- Flooring Height: Between 8-14mm (8-12mm is most common)
- Should not be glued down to sub floor (voids warranty)
- Requires underlay when installed as floating floor.
- Some are water resistant/proof.
- Some laminates exhibit strong scratch resistance.
- Most affordable option in most cases; can provide great value for money.
Hybrid
Hybrid floors consist of a rigid vinyl composite that combines the convenience of floating floor installation with the durability and water resistance of vinyl.
- Flooring Height: Between 5-8mm (5.5-6.5mm is most common)
- Cannot be glued down to sub floor (not an option)
- Cork or foam underlay backing attached.
- Waterproof.
- Moderate to strong scratch resistance
- Excellent value for money in most applications.
Wood Flooring Design
Initially the only available option, most hybrid planks emulate the design of wooden floors as it is the most popular hard flooring design. The designs range from light oak colours to dark Australian species timbers and everything in between. As with luxury vinyl planks, timber-look hybrid floors allow the natural look of timber to be married with the durability and resistance of the rigid vinyl floor.
Stone Look Design
Only available very recently, there is now a stone look design available for hybrid floors. Designed to provide an alternative to those who want the advantages of hybrid floors but prefer a different look to timber. The stone look provides an attractive design that emulates a tiled floor but with the ease of installation and affordability that hybrid floors bring.
Hybrid Floor Design
Hybrid floors come in a wide range of predominantly wood designs until recently when new alternatives have become available.
